Technorealism is an attempt to expand the middle ground between Techno-utopianism and Neo-Luddism by assessing the social and political implications of technologies so that people might all have more control over the shape of their future. The technorealist approach involves a continuous critical examination of how technologies might help or hinder people in the struggle to improve the quality of their lives, their communities, and their economic, social, and political structures.[1]
Although technorealism began with a focus on U.S.-based concerns about information technology, it has evolved into an international intellectual movement with a variety of interests such as biotechnology and nanotechnology.[2]
Ik ben een technorealist. Zijn hier nog andere technorealisten?1. Technologies are not neutral.
2. The Internet is revolutionary, but not Utopian.
3. Government has an important role to play on the electronic frontier.
5. Wiring the schools will not save them.
6. Information wants to be protected.
7. The public owns the airwaves; the public should benefit from their use.
8. Understanding technology should be an essential component of global citizenship.
Ik ben dit vanwege onder meer het onderzoek en implementatie van rfid technologie en het gebruik van allerlei vormen can ict voor de opslag van gegevens, datamining en het daarmee gepaard gaande verlies van privacy en burgerrechten- en vrijheden.
De meeste mensen snappen niets van deze zaken. Toch wordt er steeds meer over je opgeslagen in computers en cybercrime groeit, waaronder identiteitsdiefstal.
Niet alles wat nieuw is, is automatisch goed. En ik vind dat er te weinig over wordt nagedacht, er is nauwelijks discussie en van wetenschapsfilosofen hoor je al helemaal niets. Welke invloed heeft technologie op ons leven?
Zo is er veel onderzoek naar nanotechnologie. Ligt hier een gevaar voor de volksgezondheid, wanneer nanodeeltjes in het milieu terecht komen en hoe reageert ons lichaam daarop? Is dit het nieuwe asbest?
De commercie zal het een worst zijn. Die laten zich pas reguleren als wij wetten en bescherming eisen. Maar de bevolking eist niets want ze weet te weinig.
Misschien zouden sceptici hier ook eens de schaduwzijde willen bespreken van de voortschrijdende wetenschap? Wetenschap staat niet los van ons leven, het is geen geisoleerd aspect van ons leven.
Dus laat maar horen. Voor velen is deze term nieuw, technorealisme.
